Afternoon thundershowers developed most days during my stay in the Amazon. These conditions provided great opportunities for photographing the dramatic thunderheads illuminated by the setting sun. We often set out in the canoes in the afternoon onto the blackwater “varieza” lakes that the lodges were built next to. Canoeing these lakes was a great way to see and photograph birds and the sunsets reflecting off the calm lake surface.

Love this photo! The mirror image divided by the green shoreline is striking and the sun breaking through the clouds adds a mystical element…a peaceful calm giving way to a bright new beginning!
